Naples News has instituted one of the most progressive web tools in journalism: a 'chat' facility that circumvents government in the sunshine, Florida's very progressive open records law.
Most county web sites in Fla. that provide email addresses of county commissioners, dept. heads, etc., carry a warning: the text of any email correspondence becomes a part of the public record.
It's possible for two people to communicate privately through the newspaper's 'chat' facility — by sending emails to each others' accounts — without showing or proving the identity of either party.
